October 7-9, 2022

Submissions for our 12th Annual O+ Festival are now open!

Applications Open April 8, 2022

All submissions due by May 22nd, 2022 at 11:59p.m.

The O+ Festival is a celebration of art, music and wellness that creates a bridge to access health care for its participating artists/musicians while providing the community with access to the healing and transformative power of art in all forms. O+ (pronounced Oh Positive) fosters physical, mental and social well-being by connecting visual artists and musicians directly with a coalition of healthcare and wellness providers and resources in a shared vision to nurture the individual and the community. By exchanging the art of medicine for the medicine of art, O+ empowers communities to take control of their collective wellbeing.

Bands, solo artists, ensembles, multimedia artists and those who specialize in sound installation are encouraged to submit (please note: we do NOT generally book cover bands). If your submission includes a new work/installation/etc., you'll have an opportunity to submit a more detailed proposal in the form that follows. Proposals for new works, installations and/or inter-disciplinary submissions should be informed by this year's festival theme, which is SO+MEWHERE

There's a place for us, Somewhere a place for us.
Peace and quiet and open air, Wait for us, somewhere.
There's a time for us, Some day a time for us, Time together with time to spare,
Time to learn, time to care. Some day, Somewhere, We'll find a new way of living…”

~ Stephen Sondheim

For years, Somewhere Alley was an essential element of O+ Festival’s programming; a place that was unexpected, intimate and where innumerable memories and connections were made. Marked by a neon sign made by local artist Erika DeVries, Somewhere Alley was a tunnel behind BSP marked with graffiti writing and bands playing pop-ups for those who stumbled upon it. While the community now grieves the loss of beloved venues like BSP, and we respond to change in our communities, the surprise, wonder, weirdness and joy brought by experiences like Somewhere Alley are being carried into O+’s future… somewhere.

Additional information and reflections on the theme SO+MEWHERE can be found HERE. We look forward to seeing and hearing your interpretations of this theme and to reviewing your work through the lens of all of its meanings.

All submissions will be reviewed, and the festival music program will be curated by the O+ Music Committee -- a group of alumni, musicians, industry professionals, etc. representing different genres, identities and perspectives. Accepted submissions will be invited to perform at this year’s festival in exchange for access to care in the O+ Artists’ Clinic. Performances take place in a combination of traditional and non-traditional venues, both indoor and outdoor. We encourage music submissions that are site specific, nomadic, mobile, unplugged, or those that prefer a typical staged production. ALL genres and forms of music or sound pieces are welcome.

*Work that is a collaboration or hybrid between visual art/movement and music or music and wellness may choose to submit in either category. Please do not submit in both categories.

Click HERE for detailed information about our mission. You can expect to be notified regarding your submission by late June. This year, we expect to receive hundreds of music/sound submissions for a very finite number of performance slots. Capacity is determined, in large part, by the amount of care we are able to provide at our clinic during the festival weekend. We ask for your patience and understanding should your submission not be accepted for this year and encourage all who are not chosen for O+ Festival 2022 to reapply next year.

A general note and message to O+ Music Alumni: 2022 marks our 12th festival year in Kingston - an unbelievable achievement, made possible by the commitment and ongoing work of this community, its artists, musicians, health care providers, volunteers & festival attendees. We may give lower priority to acts who performed at O+ Kingston in previous three festivals, though we encourage all to apply. As our mission is centered in cultivating a diverse community of musicians to whom we are offering access to healthcare, we hope to bring as many artists into our community as we can.

We are currently expanding our music programming towards a more year-round model, as we are constantly looking for new ways provide care to musicians through that channel. If you aren’t accepted for this year’s festival, you may be contacted over the next year if there are other ways to connect with O+. We thank you in advance for your understanding. It is our hope to maintain a connection with alumni and cultivate new relationships with musicians.

If you're interested in volunteering in exchange for a clinic visit (minimum 8 hour requirement to qualify for clinic) please click HERE.

Thank you for your interest in O+ Festival and our mission.

We look forward to the opportunity to review your submission!
