October 8-10, 2021

Submissions for our 11th Annual O+ Festival are now open!

Applications Open April 23rd, 2021

All submissions due by May 28th, 2021 at 11:59p.m.

The O+ Festival is a celebration of art, music and wellness that creates a bridge to access health care for its participating artists/musicians while providing the community with access to the healing and transformative power of art in all forms. O+ (pronounced Oh Positive) fosters complete physical, mental and social well-being by connecting visual artists and musicians directly with a coalition of healthcare and wellness providers + resources in a shared vision to nurture the individual and the community. By exchanging the art of medicine for the medicine of art, O+ empowers communities to take control of their collective wellbeing.

Bands, solo artists, ensembles, multimedia artists and those specializing in sound installation are encouraged to submit (please note: we do NOT generally book cover bands). If your submission includes a new work/installation/etc., you'll have an opportunity to submit a more detailed proposal in the form that follows. Proposals for new works, installations and/or inter-disciplinary submissions should be informed by this year's festival theme, which is O+YGEN.

Singing is like a celebration of oxygen. ~ Bjork

Additional information and reflections on the theme O+YGEN can be found HERE. We look forward to seeing and hearing your interpretations of this theme and to reviewing your work through the lens of all of its meanings.

All submissions will be reviewed, and the festival music program will be curated by the O+ Music Committee -- a group of alumni, musicians, industry professionals, etc. representing different genres, identities and perspectives. Accepted submissions will be invited to perform at this year’s festival in exchange for access to care in the O+ Artists’ Clinic. Please remember that most performances this year will take place in outdoor and/or non-conventional venues due to guidance and restrictions for COVID-19 safety. We encourage music submissions that are site specific, nomadic, mobile, unplugged or amenable to non-traditional/outdoor performance spaces in addition to those that prefer a typical staged production.

*Work that is a collaboration or hybrid between visual art/movement and music or music and wellness may choose to submit in either category. Please do not submit in both categories.

Click HERE for detailed information about our mission. You can expect to be notified regarding your submission by late June. This year, we expect to receive hundreds of music/sound submissions for a very finite number of performance slots, reduced significantly from previous festival years. Capacity is determined, in large part, by the amount of care we are able to provide at our clinic during the festival weekend. We ask for your patience and understanding should your submission not be accepted for this year and encourage all who are not chosen for O+ Festival 2021 to reapply next year.

A general note and message to O+ Music Alumni: 2021 marks our 11th festival year in Kingston - an unbelievable achievement, made possible by the commitment and ongoing work of this community, its artists, musicians, health care providers, volunteers & festival attendees. This year, as we continue to navigate COVID-19 safety and guidelines, we will be inviting approximately 25 bands/musicians to perform at this year’s O+ Festival Kingston. Unlike previous years, most music performances will occur outdoors to limit exposure in an open air environment, allowing for a larger crowd size to gather safely and socially distance. As such, we may give lower priority to acts who performed at O+ Kingston in previous three festivals, though we encourage all to apply. As our mission is centered in cultivating a diverse community of musicians to whom we are offering access to healthcare, we hope to bring as many artists into our community as we can.

We are expanding our music programming in the years ahead towards a more year-round model as we are constantly looking for ways to do more to provide care to musicians through that channel. If you aren’t accepted for this year’s festival, you may be contacted over the next year if there are other ways to connect with O+. We thank you in advance for your understanding. It is our hope to maintain a connection with alumni and cultivate new relationships with musicians.

If you're interested in volunteering in exchange for a clinic visit (minimum 8 hour requirement to qualify for clinic) please click HERE.

Thank you for your interest in O+ Festival and our mission.

We look forward to the opportunity to review your submission!
