O+ FESTIVAL KINGSTON 2019
SUBMISSIONS FOR OUR 10TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL
OCTOBER 11-13 ARE NOW OPEN!
The O+ Festival is a celebration of art, music and wellness that creates a bridge to access health care for its participating artists/musicians. O+ fosters complete physical, mental and social well-being by connecting visual artists and musicians directly with a coalition of healthcare and wellness providers + resources in a shared vision to nurture the individual and the community. By exchanging the art of medicine for the medicine of art, O+ (pronounced O Positive) empowers communities to take control of their collective wellbeing.
O+ KINGSTON is now accepting submissions from visual artists to transform the city into a site-specific public art experience. O+ juxtaposes the historic architecture of the Stockade District, the Midtown Arts District, and the Rondout waterfront with compelling and thought-provoking contemporary artwork. O+ curators select a new theme each year. We invite artists to respond to the theme in their proposals to make large-scale murals, sculpture, site-specific installation, film, theater and performance in public spaces during O+ festival weekend.
O+ Festival is celebrating our tenth annual festival in Kingston in the tenth month of this year. The THEME for year ten is X.
X is the Roman numeral ‘ten’.
X marks the spot, it is an indicator.
X is a mysterious quantifier, an unknown factor, number, person, or thing
X creates form and stability in cross braces & cross-stitch
X is a point of intersection, a crossroads.
X multiplies & amplifies.
O+ Festival is a convergence of arts & wellness. How do art & music support, complement, and magnify health & wellness? Please click HERE for further exploration of our THEME.
ACCEPTED artists will be invited to share their project at this year’s festival in exchange for access to care in the O+ Artists’ Clinic (click HERE for detailed information on our mission or HERE for typical health and wellness services available). You can expect to be notified regarding your submission by late June.
A note to O+ Art Alumni: if you have made work for O+ KINGSTON within the past 2 years, we will happily review and consider your submission, but the art committee may give priority to submissions from artists who are new to the festival. 2019 marks 10 years in Kingston, made possible by the commitment and ongoing work of this community, its artists, musicians, health care providers, volunteers & festival attendees. We are always looking for ways to do more with our art alumni, but want to make sure we reach those who have yet to participate and may also have a need. We thank you in advance for your understanding. If you are interested in volunteering in exchange for a clinic visit (minimum 8 hour requirement) please click here.
We eagerly anticipate your submissions!
