October 8-10, 2021
11th Annual O+ Festival Submissions for our ExplO+re Wellness Classes are now open!
Applications Open April 23rd, 2021
All submissions due by June 23rd, 2021 at 11:59p.m.
The O+ Festival is a celebration of art, music and wellness that creates a bridge to access health care for its participating artists/musicians while providing the community with access to the healing and transformative power of art in all forms. O+ (pronounced Oh Positive) fosters complete physical, mental and social well-being by connecting visual artists and musicians directly with a coalition of healthcare and wellness providers + resources in a shared vision to nurture the individual and the community. By exchanging the art of medicine for the medicine of art, O+ empowers communities to take control of their collective wellbeing.
ExplO+re is the public facing wellness piece of the festival. It’s a chance for our community to experience different modalities, meet new teachers, explore what type of wellness practices work for them and get inspired. Explore group classes are generally 1 hour long and include movement, mindfulness, nutrition and any other approach that supports health and wellbeing. For example, one year we had a session on taking care of personal finances. All are welcome to apply.
Please note that most aspects of the festival this year will take place in outdoor and/or non-conventional venues due to guidance and restrictions for COVID-19 safety.
Following a year of placing most events on hold as our communities have grappled with crisis, O+ Festival will return to Kingston, NY October 8-10, 2021 with a celebration of life, through the exchange of art, music and wellness while holding space for the complexity that comes with the collective, and personal, trauma of the past year. Joy and connection is what we have to offer through the festival and they are, like oxygen, are essential to our ability to thrive as a community.
The theme of the 2021 O+ Festival is O+YGEN.
O+YGEN is breath and wind, energy, a chemical and a gas that flows between us; an invisible, essential force.
O+YGEN forms compounds like water which makes up 70% of the human body and covers 70% of the Earth’s surface.
O+YGEN is at the core of healing, balance, meditation and self-empowerment.
O+YGEN itself has been denied to some as an act of violent dehumanization; its denial acting as a signifier for inequity at its most intolerable.
O+YGEN is visible to us only in extremes - extreme cold, extreme intimacy or the extreme of a public health crisis.
O+YGEN is a symbol for all that has been lost, all that has been given and all that we have exchanged during the pandemic that cannot be contained within a singular form.
O+ Kingston is a convergence of the arts and wellness. Some questions to consider as you imagine your class offering. How do art and music support, complement, and magnify health and wellness? How does your work address the collective or personal trauma that is now associated with breath, oxygen, and their loss? Does your work attempt to heal after that trauma or to provide the collective sigh we are all longing for?
Additional information and reflections on the theme O+YGEN can be found HERE. We look forward to seeing and hearing your interpretations of this theme in the form of an ExlO+re Wellness Class.
